Description: Everyone meets at the ancestral home of the Bollmen to arrange carpooling to camp.

Frisbee Ultimate

Description: Somewhere between football and soccer
Basics: Each team has a goal line which the other team tries to psss. The frisbee is thrown and whichever team catches it tries to move towards the goal and score a point. You can only take three steps when catching and only if you were already moving. If the frisbee hits the ground, the team which didn't throw it last takes possession at that point. Defenders must stand at arm's length from the current thrower.
Equipment: Fribees and pylons to mark boundaries.

Snow Snake

Description: Throw a long stick (like a hiking staff) through the snow.
Basics: Throw for distance.
Equipment: apparently there is a version where you slide the stick through gutter troughs. That would involve a lot more equipment than a few stick.

Description: Nap, play games, whatever; it's free time!
Basics: None Available

Arrowmen Bingo

Description: Arrowmen are given a card with descriptions of campers. They get the card signed in a spot of their choice and it becomes their random card for a later bingo game.
Basics: There is a list of qualities and/or nicknames. Arrowmen meet people who meet those criteria and get them to sign. Later we play Bingo by calling out real names with the goal of getting 5 in a row. Sometimes we play for other things as well like corners or cover alls.
Equipment: Cards with quality list.

Baking

Description: Mixing, kneading, and waiting for the bread to be ready to bake.
Basics: Campers work in teams to prepare and bake loaves of bread and possibly other baked goods like cookies or cakes. This time is used to knead bread, wait for it to rise, knead more, let rise again, and finally bake. There is some waiting in htis process.

Preparation: Everyone should have their sleeping area prepared before light's out. Clean off the junk on your bunk and try to minimize the noise and disturbance you'll make as you get into bed.
Basics: Participants turn off lights in the sleeping areas and prepare for bed. Those who choose not to participate must speak in hushed tones and avoid using noisy equipment.

Cross-Country Golf

Description: The Winter Camp classic par 62 hole
Preparation: Rangers/Campmaster should be consulted to determine if the lake is considered safe, prior to the event so we can declare the lakes out of bounds if necessary.
Basics: Test your skills on our Par 62 course. Teams tee off at the Beaver Creek Skills building and attempt to put the ball in the cup, which is located at the nearby BC Field Sports area.
Instructions:
  1. The game is played as teams, with a fixed rotation, kind of like batting order in baseball.
  2. If a player can strike the ball again without moving his/her feet, then they can take a free stroke; this is the Rand Rule.
  3. Most other rules are the same as reqular golf.

Scout Skills Contest

Description: Competition in a variety of scout skills.
Basics: The classic examples are probably the pancake relay and knot-tying, although flag pole raising might also be fun.
Equipment: Depends on the exact event.

Card Tournament

Description: Pick a card game and hold a tournament, probably using brackets.
Basics: Players are organized into brackets and play against each other. Depending on the game, this could be done in teams.

Campfire

Description: Complete with skits and the like.
Basics: Build a fire. Small groups take turns leading songs and performing skits.

Religious Service (Indoor)

Description: A Scout is Reverent
Basics: Everyone who wants to should attend. Those not attending should not interfere with the activity.
Equipment: Winter Camp Book of Worship.

Battle Chess

Description: Played on a life-sized chess board. When attempting to capture a piece, the defender decides on a physical or mental challenge and the winner retains the square.
Basics: Basic rules are the same as chess but when you attempt to capture a piece, that piece can choose a physical or mental challenge. The winner of that challenge retains the square.
Equipment: Mental challenge questions.
Rope if there's not enough snow to make a board.

Manhunt

Description: Try to find the escaped felon
Basics: One group gets a small head start and departs for a secret goal. The other team follows and tries to intercept them before they can reach their goal.
Equipment: Some versions call for the quarry to leave clues at an interval.

4-Way Volleyball

Description: 2 Nets criss-cross creating a nice X. One team is in each side and the game is played much like volleyball
Preparation: Prior to the nets erection, the field should be inspected for hazards like holes or rocks which could result in injuries. If the field can't be cleared, then a different location should be selected.
Basics: Mostly plays just like volleyball
Instructions:
  1. There are four teams instead of two, and two nets are placed across each other to form an X
  2. Scoring starts at 0 and teams get a point every time they make a mistake
  3. Score fifteen points and you're out
  4. Dead courts (areas left vacant by a team being eliminated) are out of bounds
  5. Service is by the team counter-clockwise from the team making the error
  6. We rotate courts any time any team reaches a score divisible evenly by four
  7. If there are only two teams left, they must move to diagonally opposite courts (the Haubenstricker amendment).

Capture The Objective

Description: he classic Winter Camp sized game of Capture the Flag is back. Plays much like Capture the Flag except we add additional treasures to be stolen and if you're caught, it just costs your team points. After two hours of play, whichever has scored the most (or least) points is the winning team.
Basics: This game is played with points.
Getting captured costs your team points.
Stealing a treasure earns you points.
Making a capture earns points.
Stealing the objective is a lot of points.
Equipment: Objects to serve as treasure.
Object to be the objective.
Hole punch to mark captures.
ID card to get punched if caught.

Movie Marathon

Description: Continuous watching of movies
Basics: We watch movies. Possibly we pick a lengthy series related to the theme of the current Winter Camp.
Equipment: Projector, movies.

Preparation: Campers should be assigned to projects based on their skill level and age to ensure tools are used correctly and to match capabilities to tasks.
Basics: Stay safe. Don't use dangerous tools. Try to watch out for the person next to you too. Do what the rangers ask (or better).
Instructions: Stay safe and work hard.
Equipment: Rangers will let us know if there are any tools they recommend.

Description: Campers are p;ut through their paces in an activity where the suffering is the fun.
Basics: There are no rules. The game continues until you quit.

Casino Night

Description: Players are issued chips and then get a chance to test their skill at a variety of gambling tables. Usually, we include blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, and Volkswagen racing. We even had Banco one year (pretty much like blackjack, but cool enough for James Bond).
Basics: Rules are based on Casino games. The evening rules are that you can gamble until the casino closes or you go broke.

Description: When you're tagged, you're part of the blob.
Basics: One person starts as it. When they tag someone, that person joins them as part of the blob. Any part of the blob can tag someone, but the members of the blob must remain connected.

Description: Clean the cabins and put away camp and personal gear in preparation for departure.
Basics: If it's dirty, clean it. Do your share.
