Cross-Country Golf

Description: The Winter Camp classic par 62 hole
Preparation: Rangers/Campmaster should be consulted to determine if the lake is considered safe, prior to the event so we can declare the lakes out of bounds if necessary.
Basics: Test your skills on our Par 62 course. Teams tee off at the Beaver Creek Skills building and attempt to put the ball in the cup, which is located at the nearby BC Field Sports area.
Instructions:
  1. The game is played as teams, with a fixed rotation, kind of like batting order in baseball.
  2. If a player can strike the ball again without moving his/her feet, then they can take a free stroke; this is the Rand Rule.
  3. Most other rules are the same as reqular golf.

Ultimate Frisbee

Description: Kind of like football.
Basics: Similar to football. Teams try to pass the Frisbee to a teammate behind the enemy goal. The rules are simple. If you throw it and it isn't caught the other team picks it up where it lands. You have to stop within 3 steps of catching and you can't move if you've got it. Throwers must be given enough space to throw and must throw inside five seconds.

Rumor Spreading

Description: Try to make everyone believe a lie about another camper.
Basics: Players draw a card which has a rumor (untrue) about another camper. They then spend the rest of the week trying to spread their rumor. On the last day, we vote on how many heard it and how many believe it.

Continuous Storytelling

Description: Everyone tells a little of this tall tale
Basics: Everyone tells a story together. Each person is allowed to add only a sentence at a time and new sentences must build on, not negate, old sentences.

Murder Game

Description: Computer instructed mayhem.
Basics: Umm let's see this is so not my suggestion......it is the game you all played like a long time ago at some Winter Camps way back when....I like the idea though and feel that it should be looked into particularly maybe with a mock trial in conjunction (which i previously suggested)

Description: We watch a movie. Typically we pick one which is related to the weekly theme.
Preparation: Need to pick a movie which is age-appropriate (typically G or PG) and related to the theme.
Basics: Be mostly quiet and enjoy the movie. Eat appropriate snacks. Don't throw snacks.

Quiet Time

Description: Every night there comes a time when the lights are mostly off and people should speak in hushed voices. This is that time.
Preparation: Everyone should have their sleeping area prepared before light's out. Clean off the junk on your bunk and try to minimize the noise and disturbance you'll make as you get into bed.
Basics: Participants turn off lights in the sleeping areas and prepare for bed. Those who choose not to participate must speak in hushed tones and avoid using noisy equipment.

Preparation: Campers should be assigned to projects based on their skill level and age to ensure tools are used correctly and to match capabilities to tasks.
Basics: Stay safe. Don't use dangerous tools. Try to watch out for the person next to you too. Do what the rangers ask (or better).
Instructions: Stay safe and work hard.
Equipment: Rangers will let us know if there are any tools they recommend.

Caveman Dinner

Description: Lights out, then eat the food using your hands. Communicate without words.
Preparation: Once cooked, food is placed in pots and taken outside for some cooling prior to eating. Food is served to individual campers using tongs; once it's on their plate, they eat it using their hands. Sometimes we leave the lights on until everyone is served, it depends on ambient light.
Basics: Lights out, then eat the food using your hands. Communicate without words. Food is meant to be eaten, not used to make a mess.

Capture The Objective

Description: he classic Winter Camp sized game of Capture the Flag is back. Plays much like Capture the Flag except we add additional treasures to be stolen and if you're caught, it just costs your team points. After two hours of play, whichever has scored the most (or least) points is the winning team.
Basics: This game is played with points.
Getting captured costs your team points.
Stealing a treasure earns you points.
Making a capture earns points.
Stealing the objective is a lot of points.

Snake Hockey

Description: A dangerous game from a dangerous troop. Snake hockey is played much like regular hockey except the puck is a piece of knotted rope and the sticks are just sticks (or hockey sticks with no blades).
Basics: Each team has a net and there is a goalie who defends that net.

The teams try to put the puck in the other team's net more often than it is put in theirs. Sticks are not weapons, contact is incidental and the sticks can't go more than waist (shoulder) high.

Wacky Decathlon

Description: Twisted version of the Olympics with 10 unusual events.
Basics: Teams compete in a variety of wacky events. Winners in each event score points (like a real decathlon) and there's a winner in each event and an overall winner.

4-Way Volleyball

Description: 2 Nets criss-cross creating a nice X. One team is in each side and the game is played much like volleyball
Preparation: Prior to the nets erection, the field should be inspected for hazards like holes or rocks which could result in injuries. If the field can't be cleared, then a different location should be selected.
Basics: Mostly plays just like volleyball
Instructions:
  1. There are four teams instead of two, and two nets are placed across each other to form an X
  2. Scoring starts at 0 and teams get a point every time they make a mistake
  3. Score fifteen points and you're out
  4. Dead courts (areas left vacant by a team being eliminated) are out of bounds
  5. Service is by the team counter-clockwise from the team making the error
  6. We rotate courts any time any team reaches a score divisible evenly by four
  7. If there are only two teams left, they must move to diagonally opposite courts (the Haubenstricker amendment).

Casino Night

Description: Players are issued chips and then get a chance to test their skill at a variety of gambling tables. Usually, we include blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, and Volkswagen racing. We even had Banco one year (pretty much like blackjack, but cool enough for James Bond).
