Two of the darker moments in Winter Camp history revolve around kerosene. While traveling to Winter Camp XVI, Ron Donohue and Jeff Rand made it a point to stop and purchase kerosene to be used in the Torchlight Parade. In doing so, they violated federal hazardous materials regulations by pumping the kerosene into a gasoline container and transporting it-the law states that a specificallydesigned kerosene canister must be used for this purpose. The fluid caused more trouble for Winter Camp in its eventual use, when the Torchlight Parade attracted the attention and disapproval of another unit in camp. (RD)
