Winter Camp II was scheduled for this cabin in Jack Lord-the only Winter Camp planned outside of Beaver Creek subcamp. However, when the 12 participants arrived at D-A, they found that they had been moved to Beaver Creek cabin due to a lack of heat at James E. West. This shift confirmed Beaver Creek subcamp as the home for all future Winter Camps. As a consolation prize to the chilly cabin, James E. West was the destination of that year's Blind Hike.
James E. West finally housed Winter Campers at Winter Camp XLIII as a satellite facility while the Jack Lord cabin served as Winter Camp headquarters.
