Current Entry: Hugo's Pizza
On December 26, a trip to Hugo's Pizza in Lapeer was a pre-camp tradition. The beginning of the tradition came at Winter Camp XVI with a simple search by the pre-camp crew for a place that was open. For years thereafter, the early arrivals trekked there each Boxing Day. Traditionally, each person found a partner and paired up, eating at least a medium pizza each. Hugo's is no longer in business, but the restaurant reopened under the more appropriate name of Fat Boy's for overindulgent pre-Winter Campers. Greg's Pizza now hosts campers seeking pizza on December 26.
At Winter Camp XXV, the precamp pizza tradition claimed a mercenary victim. In order to avoid the shame of not finishing a whole pizza, Steve Clark paid Rob Hartwig $2 to finish his. Rob, overloaded with pizza, subsequently threw up into a pizza box. His efforts to vomit in the neatest way possible earned him the respect of his fellows and a secure place in Winter Camp lore.
