Current Entry: Generations
The first Winter Camp generation, of course, began with Winter Camp I in 1977.
The second generation was declared to begin when Brian Mann attended Winter Camp XV in 1991, as he was the first Winter Camper who had not been born when Winter Camp I started. The calendar was then reset, and Winter Camp historians made a mental note to watch for the first Winter Camper who was not yet born by December 27, 1991.
That third generation began with Gabe Church, who was born in October 1992 and whose first Winter Camp was Winter Camp XXVIII. Campers whose first Winter Camp was at or after XXVIII comprise the third generation.
After a few years of waiting and monitoring birth records of new campers, Generation Four began with the attendance at Winter Camp XLII of Ryan Shork, who was born in October 2005, after the start of Winter Camp XXVIII. The third generation thus closed, covering the years from Winter Camps XXVIII through XLI.
The fifth generation will commence with the first Winter Camper born after December 27, 2018-if the established pattern holds true, Winter Camp LVI, scheduled for December 27-31, 2032, will welcome that 13-year-old camper.
