Current Entry: Extreme Bowling
The only activity which was conceived at the 2003 pre-planning meeting and survived essentially unchanged to take place at Winter Camp XXVII was Extreme Bowling. The idea was simple-Winter Campers would set themselves up as the bowling ball by riding on sleds into gigantic bowling pins. Numerous ideas for snow-free alternatives were discussed, but in the end, the event was rescheduled to take advantage of snow on the ground on the first day of Winter Camp XXVII. Campers adjourned to the Beaver Lake dam, bearing 22 3-foot tall cardboard bowling pins provided by Paul Kupser. The pins were set up in two lanes and chaos ensued as nearly every camper took a run down the slope. Mike Hodnicki will be remembered as the first one to bowl a strike. Paul Kupser scattered the pins the furthest, Dave Oakley slid the farthest, and Ryan Brake managed to hit the wrong lane entirely. The pins were relegated to the burn pile and put to the torch two days later at the service project. (SD)
