Current Entry: Bollman House

Beginning with Winter Camp VII in 1983, Winter Campers gathered on the morning of December 27 at the Bollman house in Allen Park, frequently to find that there aren't enough cars to get everyone and their gear to camp comfortably. When the meeting point was moved there from the Osvath house, three Winter Campers lived there. Over the intervening decades, the four Bollman Winter Campers have all moved to other residences, but Winter Camp still gathered there each year. In 2001, Steve and Kristie Donohue looked into buying a house across the street, but chose another Allen Park home. The possibility that Ed and Linda Bollman might "wise up and tell us to take our meeting across the street" was mentioned as a factor on their Web site and may or may not have influenced their choice.

This tradition ended in 2018, after several years of multiple campers bypassing the meeting time and place, often without notifying anyone who was waiting for them in the cold. This was in part due to the expansion of the sponsoring chapter, so much so that a stop in Allen Park was well out of the way. Beginning that year, campers were simply instructed that Winter Camp began at 10:30 AM EST (11:47 AM WCST) on December 27, and to get to D-A by then. Campers were not simply left in the lurch; a phone number to call for assistance in getting a ride was also provided.
