Current Entry: Boat Building
As part of the Pirates of Brownsea Island theme of Winter Camp XXX, Paul Kupser brought materials to camp for members to build a pair of pirate ships. The boats were constructed on Day Three and ignited during Pyro Battleships on Day Four.
During the construction phase, both teams used inflated balloons as ballast to improve their crafts' buoyancy. Steve Donohue faced off against Doug Wilson's electric air compressor in three inflation battles. Though Doug issued each challenge, Steve successfully met each one: ordinary inflation, inflation to bursting, and inflation of an unstretched fresh-from-the-package balloon. In the second challenge, Steve found his body stretched to its limit. Following his win, and the subsequent ear ringing throughout the Beaver Creek building, he noted "I won't lie; I was about to hurl."
The event was downsized for Winter Camp XXXI, when it appeared on the schedule as "Trireme Building". The boats were smaller, were launched on Beaver Creek behind Clearwater cabin, and were not set alight.
