Current Entry: Big Pine
The Big Pine is a navigational aid at the intersection of trails coming from Old Baldy, Hilltop, and Beaver Creek, and is very noticeable for Winter Campers coming from Beaver Creek. It plays a key role in the plot of Another Ten Seconds, and was marked with a sign at Winter Camp XXVI. The sign was made as part of the Squaw Point project at Winter Camp XXV, but couldn't be raised at that camp since Jeff Rand, who knew precisely where the tree was, had to leave camp early. There has been some logging in the area recently, but it is believed that nailing a sign to the tree makes it less attractive to lumbermen. (JR)
