Current Entry: Ark Dinner
The Ark Dinner made its debut at Winter Camp XXVI, although it had been first suggested by Big Bro as part of his "40 New Ideas In 40 Days" spurt of creativity on the Winter Camp Web site. Inspired by the Iron Chef television series, the meal saw two teams of cooks given a common set of ingredients (chicken, potatoes, carrots, and cornbread mix) and $40 to supplement them for the first night's dinner. Team Flesh, based in the Beaver Creek kitchen and led by Ron Donohue and Dave Milon, put together a Mexican meal with a chicken-cheese casserole (olives optional) as the main course. Paul Kupser and Ethan Rein led Team Awesome from the Clearwater kitchen in preparing baked chicken and cornbread stuffing, with Doug Wilson providing an assist and a baked Alaska to close the meal. While waiting for the various parts of the menus to be served, Mark Bollman--> and Jeff Rand entertained campers by alternating in reciting an infinite series representation for Pi. Campers rated each meal's entree, side dishes, dessert, and presentation on a 1-5 scale, and Team Flesh was declared the winner by a 405-403 margin. It fell then to Team Awesome to clean up after both groups of chefs. The meal returned at Winter Camp XXVII, although in a slightly modified format.
