Current Entry: 10-Year Time Capsule
Winter Camp's most ambitious time capsule so far was the 10-year capsule buried at the CHR Memorial Site at Winter Camp XII and dug up at Winter Camp XXII. Some of the contents were remembered over the intervening decade, while others were completely forgotten and came as surprises in 1998.
Time Capsule Contents: 1988-1998
- Two peanut butter cookies wrapped in aluminum foil
- Notes signed by Mark Bollman--> and Jeff Rand promising to eat these cookies at Winter Camp XXII. [They did, noting that the cookies tasted rather like the polyvinyl chloride material of the capsule.]
- One pound of Trail's End popcorn
- Note written by Mark Bollman--> detailing a bet between Jeff Rand and Doug Wilson about how much of this popcorn would pop in 1998. [Jeff won the bet.]
- Letter to Winter Camp XXII written by Steve Donohue
- Detroit News from December 30,1988
- Complete set of menu cards from the Salute To The States Banquet at Winter Camp XII

- Loom beading which read "Doug Horn" [Acquired with a collection of Dr. Bob Finehout's personal property at Winter Camp XII. If anyone knows who Doug Horn is, they're not talking. This nametag played a role in Jeff Rand's

A second 10-year capsule was placed at Winter Camp XXII for recovery in 2008. This capsule includes letters from each camper to the future making a series of predictions as well as Polaroid photos of the last day of camp and a number of other articles.

Time Capsule Contents: 2008-2018 (partial list)
- A flash drive with numerous photos from Winter Camp XXXII. The data were not damaged by a decade underground.
- A blueberry-scented candle which had been caulked by Doug Wilson in 2008 in an effort to keep the fragrance from pervading the capsule's contents. This succeeded.
- Detroit News from December 30, 1988 (from the first 10-year capsule) and December 30, 1998 (from the second).

- Receipt from Hungry Howie's Pizza for pizza ordered by Dougald McEachren and Ethan Morlock at Winter Camp XXXII and delivered to camp.
