Current Entry: Popcorn
One of Winter Camp's most popular snack foods, popcorn was served at all three snacks at Winter Camp I and has been a part of the menu in eighteen different snack themes since then. See Table 29 for a complete accounting.
Popcorn played an additional role at Winter Camp XXII when the first 10-year time capsule was retrieved. Forgotten by everyone, a bag of Trail's End popcorn had been buried, with the details of a bet between Jeff Rand and Doug Wilson as to its ability to pop ten years later. Jeff asserted that more than 25% would pop, while Doug took the position that less than 25% would. A sample was prepared, and nearly 100% popped. Doug paid off the bet with a bottle of Coca-Cola, and Jeff began serious speculation that storing popcorn underground for a decade might be a good practice. At Winter Camp XXV, no popcorn was served at any of the four snacks, but caramel corn appeared on the menu for the 162-Dish Banquet. Jeff Rand brought a sample of Winter Camp I popcorn to Winter Camp XXVIII and popped it on the second night.
At Winter Camp XXXIV, Council Executive John Reesor visited Winter Camp and contributed a supply of Trail's End chocolate covered popcorn to camp. Ethan Rein noted that "it tastes like well-connected friends". Winter Camp XXXVII employed the commercial popcorn popper at Silver Trails for a deluxe batch of popcorn.
