Current Entry: Table Elf

In 2006, Keith King attended his company’s Christmas Dinner where we won a raffle to take him the centerpiece from his table (persistent rumors have said that if he’d lost, he’d have received two of them). Anyhow, he brought the centerpiece to Winter Camp. It was a roughly 30” tall metal stamped elf with springy arms mounted on a springy base. It was less than attractive, which is probably why Keith hadn’t dared to take it out of the car.

At Winter Camp, it was mostly stuck on a table and forgotten. It had only one job each year – it was the last thing to go into the attic in hopes of frightening away potential thieves. As far as we know it worked hundreds of times, but it did fail us once. Eventually the springs succumbed to rust and we finally pulled the plug and sent him to the dumpster. It is likely that he was the last surviving member of his clan, his life extended beyond all reason by the willingness of Winter Campers to put up with things as long as they didn’t have to take them anywhere.
