Current Entry: Hunter-Gatherer Meal
Winter Camp XXXVIII's Hunter-Gatherer Meal followed that morning's String Maze and Trading activities. Trading followed the String Maze and was designed as a way to add higher stakes to the Market Madness game from Winter Camp XXXVII. The four String Maze teams brought the food and supplies they had found into Beaver Creek Cabin and attempted to trade what they had in order to prepare a well balanced, cooked meal. In practice few trades took place, setting the stage for unbalanced lunches. The four groups from the previous activities prepared a meal based on the food items and supplies they found. In addition to what was found in the maze, water and the use of a knife were allowed.
Following the excitement of the trading activity, the four groups combined into two. One group went to Clearwater. Finding themselves without a pot, they dined on cold, concentrated soup and grilled cheese sandwiches cooked over an open stove flame. The other group prepared soup, salmon salad, and grilled cheese sandwiches in a more conventional manner in Beaver Creek Cabin. In the end, much of the food (especially the canned fish) went uneaten. The can of oysters was slated for the time capsule before good sense prevailed and led to its removal. (ER)
