Current Entry: David Oakley
Eagle Scout David Oakley first attended Winter Camp in 1979 and attended sporadically until 2021; he has attended 25 so far. David called Troop 1315 home. Members of the Lodge recognized his service with the Vigil Honor in 2006. His Vigil name is Wenitschanit Macheli Netopalis which means Father to Many Scouts.
Dave helped co-author the Drafting merit badge book with Ford Motor Company In 2007, he helped write the Fly Fishing merit badge book with Michigan Fly Fishing Club. He helped on the Wood Carving merit badge book in 2008.
Dave has been to Philmont (1998), , Charles Sommers Canoe Base (2003), and Isle Royale (2007). He's attended 2 national Jamborees, and the World Jamboree in 2019.
He did earn one Girl Scout patch with his daughter raking leaves! He's been SM or ASM for 37 years, on the Council Advancement Committee for 35 years and participated in 338 Eagle Boards of review and filed 65 heroism reports. He's helped run D-A Klondikes for 20 years and been an active and consistent Merit Badge Mania counselor since 1990.
Professionally, Dave has worked as a design engineer for 30 years. He holds 7 patents and one innovative design award for capless fuel pipe on Flex. He received a Global community service award from Bill Ford in April 2008. He helped start the Michigan Science center Scout Workshop program in 2006 with engine displays from Ford racing and a Pine Wood Derby track.
He has been married for 31 years and has two daughters, Melissa who does graphic animation in California and Amanda who works at Allen Park Library and also has her Beautician certificate. His family has one cat, Waffles.
Dave is also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus #3078, where he is currently youth director and Chancellor. He's a member of the Historic fort Wayne Coalition and a member of Arbor Day.
Apart from Scouting, his hobbies include wood carving, biking, horse shoes, golf, hiking, camping, tying flies, painting, gardening, and swimming.
