Current Entry: Hurling
Gastric distress, of various origins, has made it presence vividly known at several Winter Camps. In 2014, an effort was made to catalog these incursions. Mike Osvath holds the distinction of being the first Winter Camper to throw up at camp, when the notorious pizza served at Winter Camp I claimed him as a victim. Mike is also the third camp hurler, after consuming Beef Fizz at Winter Camp VII. Ron Wiseman fell ill and threw up, an unfortunate reaction to a possibly-questionable batch of Waldorf salad served at Winter Camp VI.
The Winter Camps numbered in the midto late teens had always been noteworthy for relatively low attendance; only much later did it become clear that they were also a festival of sorts of reverse peristalsis. Aaron Prunkard lost his lunch-literally-during the first Winter Camp Future Olympics, in the 60-yard dash event. Also at Winter Camp XV, Josh Davis did not himself throw up, but praised Little Ozzie's Pizza with the unusual testimonial "This pizza is so good, if I eat another bite, I'll throw up." The next year saw Steve Donohue's mysterious and undiagnosed illness manifest itself in repeated eructation-while samples were preserved in the year's time capsule, we were no closer to a diagnosis at Winter Camp XVII when the capsule was retrieved.
The Viking Olympics saw Josh Davis and Brian Mann fall victim to the gastrointestinal assault of 88 ounces of cold well water drunk too speedily in the first part of the Mead Marathon event; both successfully reached the door of the cabin before throwing up, though, and their travails were commemorated in the year's Epic Limerick Cycle entry.
Finally, for now, there were the casualties of Winter Camp XXVI. Seven Arrowmen fell seriously ill with gastric distress during camp. No common cause was ever determined (though the unusual meats shipped in from southwest Michigan were the likely culprit), but the Epic Limerick Cycle once again commemorated their troubles.
