Current Entry: Turducken Dinner
The turducken, of course, consists of a three-way avian merger: a chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey. In keeping with Chinese and European tradition, the Turducken Dinner was served at approximately 9:50 PM on Day Three of Winter Camp XXXVI, following a leisurely day of service. Winter Camp's best cooks spent much of the afternoon and evening assembling nine birds, including ducks that were difficult to find while grocery shopping, into three turduckens. This feat in poultry engineering took 2+ hours to assemble and four hours to cook, and resulted in an unusual culinary highlight that will probably never be repeated. So certain were campers of this that turducken was immediately entered on the menu for future Winter Camp Historic Banquets. The nested birds were preceded by a selection of crudit´es, accompanied by green bean casserole, and followed by strawberry shortcake. Most diners were clad in new white or blue shirts that had been discovered earlier in the day during the service project.
