It was proposed that youth members be provided with an opportunity to earn a merit badge at Winter Camp XVI. While the first choice of Machinery was displaced by Communications, a vestige of the earlier idea survived in this Day One event. Among the noteworthy highlights was Doug Wilson's construction of an Archimedes Screw water-lifting device.
