Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Independence Hike
In the runup to Winter Camp XXVIII, this hike went through several refinements before its final form was reached. Originally, Jeff Rand and Ethan Rein had proposed a hike to begin from the moment of arrival at D-A, where campers would deposit their gear into the camp's chuck wagon at the main gate and the group would then hike back to Beaver Creek. Over the course of the autumn of 2004, a different, less arduous, plan emerged. On Day One, campers loaded some of their gear on the wagon, which they then pushed and pulled around the Ranch Road/Beaver Trail/East Center Road loop. Along the way, they enjoyed the North American Aboriginal Lunch, 4-Way Volleyball, Cow Chip Tossing, and the Winter Camp Survival Exercise before returning to Beaver Creek.
