Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Hospital Runs

Three Winter Campers have required hospitalization during camp. Paul Duran was the first to leave camp significantly less fit than when he arrived, as he fell on Cow Camp hill following Capture The Objective at Winter Camp VII and cut his leg rather seriously. His blood froze on the Bollmans' toboggan, which had been pressed into service as an emergency stretcher. As Kurt Whybra put his EMT Training to use administering first aid, Ron Donohue worked at keeping Paul calm and treating him for shock. Ron told him, "It's not that bad, take it easy," and similar encour Aging statements. Upon returning from the hospital aware of the true severity of his injury, Paul was heard to say, "Ron, you don't know anything about first aid". Capture The Objective claimed a victim at Winter Camp XVIII, when Ron Donohue took a spill and would up on crutches with a sprained ankle. At Winter Camp XX, Dickson Mann fell during the relay race portion of the Indian Olympics and suffered a broken finger. (SD & JH)
