Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Hawaiian Luau
In an effort to counteract the inevitable effects of Michigan weather, the banquet at Winter Camp XIV looked to a far warmer state for its theme. The Luau is one of two non-snack meals specifically to include a television as part of the theme. During the meal, members viewed a travelogue on Hawaii.
The meal returned ten years later, and the BC building was festooned with pineapples and the finest pseudo-Polynesian decorations-including straw hats and leis for all campers-available from the Oriental Trading Company in Nebraska. The menu in 2000 included "Luau Casserole", a concoction of Ham, Rice, and six of the 19 green peppers purchased for Winter Camp XXIV. The Pork Roast accompanying this dish was prepared somewhat according to Steve Donohue and John Howey's collective imagination.
