Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Pizza Smorgasbord
The Pizza Smorgasbord is noteworthy as the only Winter Camp meal theme traceable back to Winter Camp I. The pizza served in 1977 is noted for an unusually high pepperoni content--one pound--but the creation was enjoyed by all. A certified Winter Camp classic, this meal has undergone a host of name changes. Originally, the feast was served at dinner, where "Pizza Smorgasbord" was an appropriate name as pizzas were not made to individual specifications.
As it grew more and more intricate, the Smorg took over the name while changing the menu of the Anti-Obedience Snack and moved to the evening. The snack later bore the name of one of Winter Camp's two pizza franchises: Little Ozzie's Pizza at Winter Camps XIV-XVIII and XX, Bollmano's Pizza at Winter Camp XIX and XXI-XXIX, and the Sim City Pizzas (operated by Bollmano's) at XXIV. At Winter Camp XXIX, the Smorgasbord returned to dinner as the Tripoli Dinner, but Bollmano's continued serving individual pizzas.
Innovative toppings have become an interesting component of the Winter Camp pizza experience. Part of this emergence may be attributed to the twisted mind of several past Winter Camp pizza chefs and consumers, and part to a line from the Winter Camp Food Book: "Leftovers may be used to enhance available toppings.". This admonition has truly been taken to heart, as the following chart shows.
