Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Aardvark Imitation
In an effort to secure the first spot, alphabetically, on the activities list, this was proposed in jest at the Winter Camp XVII Planning Meeting. It was consigned to the Dead List and remained there, undisturbed, for over a quarter-century.
As was right.
In 2021, the Michigan Crossroads Council's risk management officials, in their review of Winter Camp's risk management plan, mentioned this proposed event as an activity of concern. Since all they had to go on was the name-given that no plan for the event was ever suggested-Winter Camp found it challenging to respond to their questions. When this was mentioned at the Winter Camp XLV Planning Meeting, Jeff Rand concocted (possibly with the aid of the Internet) a hypothetical plan for aardvark imitation that centered somehow on digging shallow holes. While we collectively and wisely passed on scheduling the event, Michael Bristol incorporated it into a meme suggesting that missing the Planning Meeting might have been a bad idea. His graphic, labeled "OOPS- Should have gone to the Planning Meeting", listed aardvark impersonation as 5 of the first 7 Winter Camp activities. Matt Grimble read from the proposed schedule at the December chapter meeting to promote Winter Camp.
