Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Raw Deal Lunch
The Raw Deal Lunch made its debut on Day Four at Winter Camp XLI. As far as possible, all foodstuffs for this meal were prepared from scratch on site. The menu included peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches served on fresh Winter Camp bread, freshly-baked Sugar Cookies, and tap water. Only the Better Made Potato Chips were not made in camp. They were made in Michigan, of course, which is not nothing. The Homemade Peanut Butter was walked around Trout Lake in the Silly Walk before being consumed. Oddly, though it tasted fine, this peanut butter had virtually no smell. The meal was served on puzzle Placemats which included a word search containing the word "SPAM" once in a 16 × 16 grid containing only the letters S, P, A, and M. Alan Wilson was responsible for designing that puzzle.
Some sort of kitchen experiment gone awry affected one batch of cookies, which came out unusually. . . solid-indeed, a new composite material may have been formed. Various tests of their durability were performed; all that we can say for sure is that the Trout Lake floor was unharmed and that they were not harder than a tungsten steel drill bit. Steve Donohue opined that it was sad that Trout Lake was frozen, as he'd love to see how far one of the cookies would skip across the water.
