Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Escape Contest
At Winter Camp XL, the three families competed in a three-round game to extract themselves from a challenging situation.
In Round 1, each family member was blindfolded and his hands tied in front of him. The challenge was to extricate every family member as quickly as possible. The Moronie family escaped first, followed by the Gambinis and Burdicks. Round 2 saw family members again bound, this time back to back. A family with an odd number of members saw its odd member's hands tied behind his back. Again, the goal was to untie everyone. At this challenge, the results of Round 1 were reversed: Burdick triumphed, followed by Gambini and Moronie. Finally, each team member had a bowling ball tied to his leg. [It is a testament to Winter Camp's surfeit of equipment that something like this was possible.] The group walked from Beaver Creek cabin to the top of Beaver Lake dam and back in a timed event. The Burdick family won this race, followed by the Moronies and Gambinis.
Scoring for the event awarded 3 points for a first-place finish, 2 for second, and 1 for third. The final standings were Burdick: 7 pts, Moronie: 6 pts., and Gambini: 5 pts. (ER)
