Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Dino Dice
Dino Dice, the game of dinosaur and monster combat, was part of the thematic attractions at Winter Camp XXXIX. Each player started with three Dice, 18 stickers, and five Poker Chips. The stickers bore various icons with different meanings, and could be applied to the Dice in any combination each player chose.
At least that was the theory. In practice the game didn't go well. Most participants weren't interested but took their materials and gave them to other campers. Brian Maghran was particularly good at getting extra parts and supplemented that by cutting the icons out of the instruction sheets and taping them onto his Dice. Because of this strategy he was unbeatable, though few if any campers actually played the game.
This is similar to what happened in the outside world years earlier, when the game Magic: the Gathering was released. During playtesting no one owned more than a few hundred cards but once they were sold, people quickly amassed huge collections giving them large numbers of powerful and rare cards. Tournament rules had to be drafted to correct the problem. Dino Dice didn't have a big enough following to motivate such rules. (SD)
