On Day Four of Winter Camp XXXIX, campers were addressed by D-A Ranger Jack Sims and council representative Rich McConnell about the effect on D-A and Winter Camp of the plan to mine the camp for gravel. During a discussion of plans for repurposing portions of the camp after the mining operations were concluded, Corey Sanborn stressed the importance of building a formal Cross-Country Golf course. Steve Donohue acquired the rights to the URL buildthecourse.org while still at camp, and in early 2016, the site was launched as an addition to Winter Camp's online presence and as a way to advance the argument for a course. Steve later distributed green golf tees and blue golf pencils with the buildthecourse.org URL as further promotional materials.
