Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Yeti Volleyball
Winter Camp's Volleyball modification tradition led to a new game at Winter Camp XXIX. Absent the extra net for 4-Way Volleyball, members seized a 42" exercise ball and began tossing and hitting it over the lone net. Over the course of the morning, the rules for this new sport were developed. One rule retained from other Volleyball games was that no player could hit the ball twice in succession. After that, the games diverged. Yeti Volleyball games are played to 17 points, the court has no boundaries other than the net (and the Clearwater fire pit, ruled out of bounds as a safety measure), there is no limit on the number of hits per side, the ball may be served by a two-handed overhead throw dubbed the "Wilson serve", and players may let the ball bounce once before hitting it. This last rule proved easy to implement, but Arrowmen at times found it difficult to overcome years of Volleyball experience-"Let it bounce!" was a frequent cry during the inaugural game.
