Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Telephone
Winter Camp's communication capacity was greatly enhanced at Winter Camp XIX, when a pay phone was installed outside the BC building. The first incoming call at (810) 678-9906 went to John Howey, who was also the recipient later that Weekette of the first collect call placed from camp. Dave Milon stands in history as the perpetrator of the first prank call ever placed to Winter Camp. An inside phone line appeared at Winter Camp XXI. While this facilitated the first Internet link at Winter Camp, it also fielded an incoming call from a travel agent in Pittsburgh who sought information on area attractions. The phone remained functional through Winter Camp XXXI.
Winter Camp XXII saw a computer-related engineering feat by Steve Donohue and Doug Wilson, who ran a line to the new computer room by routing it through the fluorescent light fixture.
