Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Stylish Seafood Dinner
Shaun Range's obsession with seafood during the Winter Camp XXXIV Planning Meeting bordered on disturbing and led to this meal. One of the hallmarks of the Winter Camp kitchen is its ability to improvise, and that spirit of experimentation was on display on Day Two. Some simplifying adjustments were made to the menu by the Grocery Shopping teams on Christmas Eve, with the result that the cooks found themselves with a surfeit of flounder filets and limited instructions for cooking them. Steve Donohue improvised a fine sauce from ingredients on hand, and while there was some confusion about what constituted "fully cooked" fish, no one fell ill as a result of the meal. The Clearwater oven was pressed into service for the first time that Weekette, and the Popcorn shrimp baked there proved a fine addition to dinner. Dessert challenged the cooks' efforts to make the best out of a bad situation-in this case, the dropping of two apple pies in getting them out of the oven. A three-way collection of apple-based dessert treats was offered, including Apple Pie, "apple cobbler", and deep-dish open-faced Apple Pie. The results spoke for themselves-none of these apple products were represented in the Rand Stew.
