At Winter Camp XXIV, root beer played an unscheduled role in two snacks. Paul Kupser brought a 12-gallon keg of home-brewed root beer and served it at the Casino Snack and Jeff Rand brought two cases of Saranac root beer which were served at the Oracle Bakery Snack Paul continued his brewing into Winter Camp XXV, providing a souvenir bottle of root beer for all participants at the 162-Dish Banquet
A carbonated beverage made from the root of the sassafras tree and served cold. This recipe has been part of several meal themes. Collectively, those themes have been served at 8 Winter Camps. The first time it was served was at Winter Camp XIX in 1995 and the last time was at Winter Camp XLII in 2018. It has been served 9 times over the years.
