Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Prenuptial Agreements
For the average Winter Camper, getting married can have a dramatic effect on his ability to attend camp. His own family may be used to his bizarre holiday habits, but his new family may expect somewhat more adult behavior. In particular, with no children of Scout age in his household, it can be difficult for an Arrowman to convince a spouse that he's going to camp for the boys. Mike Osvath's camp attendance has declined since his wedding-indeed, his wife took direct action and packed his gear one year so that he could go. Roger Horn and Dave Oakley have similarly seen their attendance curtailed, at least on occasion, by family commitments.
Ron Donohue was the first camper to craft an explicit prenuptial agreement when he was married in 1996. While his agreement simply guaranteed that he could always attend camp, he missed the first camp after his wedding by his own choice to attend a wedding in Mexico. His wife made sure to point this out in their first Christmas newsletter. Mark Bollman-->'s 2000 wedding included a similar clause. Steve Donohue's 2001 wedding included an agreement designed to take advantage of his wife's unique attitude towards Winter Camp and, not so coincidentally, top Ron's. The agreement posted on the Web at kristieandsteve.com has Steve promising Kristie that he will continue attending camp rather than Kristie promising to let him go. For her part, Kristie has promised not to complain too loudly if updates aren't posted as frequently as she'd like. This last agreement was somewhat mooted when Kristie was elected to the OA in 2011 and began attending Winter Camp as a full member. (SD)
