Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Pioneering Project
At Winter Camp XI, a mad dash around camp in search of pioneering poles (including a trek down the two-track fire road) resulted in some light damage to John Howey's vehicle and the construction of an inverted pyramid tower in front of Clearwater. Despite Jeff Rand's frequent commentary when assessing poles that one or another would "make a good X", the tower contained no X's. During the log hunt, Jeff announced that he valued his rope at $1.00 for each twelve-foot section and that he expected all the lengths to return to camp. He counted them on the way out, and one length of rope turned up missing. In a vain attempt to avoid a hunt for the missing rope, Steve Donohue handed Jeff $1.00 and announced "This is to cover the cost of your missing rope.".
