Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Paradox Metaphor
The title of Steve Donohue's first Winter Camp novel, this project had been in the works since Winter Camp XVIII. Literary hawks eagerly anticipated its eventual publication, and they were cheered in May 1998 when the novel was serialized on the Winter Camp web site, becoming the first Winter Camp serial. The novel speculates on the effects, on Winter Camp and the universe, of Jeff Rand's time travel scheme. Should time travel ever become possible, he vowed to return to Winter Camp I, secretly photograph the event (from which no photos are known to exist), and seal the pictures in the ground one foot below the 10-Year Time Capsule to be unearthed at Winter Camp XXII. Steve had counterproposed that if time travel ever became possible in his lifetime, he would seek out the photos and remove them; this is only briefly mentioned in Paradox Metaphor.
In the novel, Jeff's act is successfully carried out, but with unexpected and potentially disastrous consequences for humanity. The Winter Camp Universe and its counterpart both attempt to reverse the effects of Rand's ill-advised temporal excursion. In 2003, the book was printed for sale through Winter Camp's CafePress Web store.
