Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Nuclear Survival Shelters
On Day Four of Winter Camp XXXIV, the calendar ran from 1986 to 2010, and one of the eraappropriate events was a contest to construct nuclear survival shelters from natural materials. With nuclear radiation in short supply, one test of the shelters' integrity was their ability to withstand an assault from a bowling ball. The team based near the Beaver Creek shower house built their shelter pre-assumed the effects of nuclear winter and built their shelter largely from snow, which adequately resisted the ball's repeated onslaught.
