Encyclopedia WinterCampica - Long-Distance Slingshot
During the military-themed Winter Camp XXXII, campers explored the earliest in military technology with a four-ring circus of slinging on Day One. Three of the slings used weapons improvised on site. Steve Donohue's balloon sling, installed outside the Beaver Creek building, proved itself able to launch a cross-country ski pole, but not as far as a human could throw one. The remaining events were held on and around the Beaver Lake dam. Dave Oakley supervised a game involving a commercial slingshot and a trash can, and most campers took a shot or two at the targets. Dave also fashioned a Biblical sling, which was used to fling Snowballs between the top and bottom of the dam. Jeff Rand turned a towel into a second Biblical sling and guided campers in tossing bocce balls down the road-some went for considerable positive distance, and some for negative distance.
