The first informal " event" of Winter Camp I was a light bulb hunt. Jeff Rand and Mike Osvath left Clearwater, ostensibly to find a light bulb to replace one which had burnt out. They returned about an hour later with no bulb. The truth was that they had gone up to the Last Ceremony site to set up an electric fire which was used as part of the first Blind Hike. Back in those days, the Blind Hike actually had a purpose-the first part was done leaderless and was supposed to be a reckless pell-mell chaotic thing. In the second part a leader was selected and was expected to use his resources to make the return trip better. (SD)
